Shelf Life for Beard & Mustache Products

February 20, 2020

When it comes to purchasing beard and mustache care products the one questions I receive a lot is, "how long are they good for?".  As a rule of thumb I suggest using beard and mustache care products within 1 year of purchase.  That's not to say that they will go bad once they reach the 1 year mark but think of it more of as a "best used by" date.  Properly storing your products helps to keep them as fresh as possible.

The golden rule for storage is to keep everything in a cool, dry, dark place.  For example, the products that I'm currently using at the moment I keep in an organized pull out drawer in my bathroom.  It's easily accessible and everything is stored away from any direct sunlight, heat, or humidity.  You want to avoid having your beard and mustache products out and about.  You do not want any direct sunlight hitting them and you want to avoid any major temperature swings.  I also recommend keeping beard oil bottles off any countertop or table top in order to prevent it falling over and breaking.

If you are anything like me you probably have a lot of beard and mustache products that range in scents and product types such as beard oil, balm, butter, and mustaches waxes.  Some of these products you might use at different times of year or you have a rotation going of your current favorite scents.  At this point it's a wise idea to put the products you aren't using into "deep storage".  I recommend using a Tupperware container or something similar to store your products for longer periods of time.

I typically use the deep storage method on scents that I'm not currently using.  For example during the winter I will store away my summer scents and vice versa.
